First Time for Stone Crab Claws!

I was in Orlando after Thanksgiving and an opportunity came up for me to go to a restaurant called FishBones to try my very first stone crab claws. I had always heard about these, and they are native to the FL area, so why not give them a try. One of the unique things about stone crab claws is the way they are harvested. They have one large claw that is removed and the crab is allowed to go back into the ocean to regenerate its claw. As with any…

Food Highlights from Madison, WI

Over Labor Day weekend, we went to visit cousins who live right outside Madison, WI. I’ve never had a strong desire to go visit the mid-West, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to hang out with the cutest niece and nephews! We made great memories and I’m so glad I got the chance to hang out with the family. As a bonus, I got to sample some pretty good mid-western cuisine! Lunch at The Old Fashioned – We were hanging around downtown Madison and stopped in here for lunch. All…

West Coast Paradise found in Southern CA

Our good friends had their wedding nuptials in Santa Barbara over the weekend, and we took this chance to explore the area and get a feel of the West Coast. I can pretty much sum up this trip in one word – LOVE. We fell in love with Santa Barbara. It was beautifully lush and laid back; it totally reminded us of Hawaii, a tucked away piece of paradise only a few hours from LA. There was no hustle and bustle of the big city; instead, people were super friendly…

(Food) Highlights of My Trip to Vegas

Besides the lights, shows and casinos, what else is Vegas know for? The food of course! Spending an extended amount of time in Vegas this past week let me get a really good sampling of some of the best cuisine Sin City has to offer. I definitely packed on a few pounds with the insane amount of calories I consumed, but in the end, it was all worth it. Here are just a few highlights from my eating adventure in Vegas. Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro I started of the…

Eating My Way Through the Virginia Beach Region

I was in the Hampton Roads/VA Beach region for work this week. My family and I go down to VA Beach almost every year, but we never spend enough time down there for me to get a good sense of the cuisine. So I took the opportunity this week to finally sample a wide variety of the local food. Chickahominy House – Soul Food Restaurant, Williamsburg, VA I carpooled with some co-workers on the ride down early Monday morning. As we were getting close to Richmond, we realized that it was 8…

Crab Cakes at Gunning’s Seafood Restaurant

I found myself across the Potomac River in Maryland for work and based on a coworker’s suggestion — who used to live and work in that area — went to Gunning’s Seafood Restaurant in Hanover for lunch. This place was right off the main road, in a business park. Driving up, you couldn’t miss where everyone was having lunch, the parking lot was full; there were cars parked illegally all over the sides of the street. After finding what seemed like a reasonable parking spot, we walked up to the…

Lunch in Lexington, VA

I was in Lexington, VA earlier this week and stopped into the Sheridan Livery Inn for lunch. This hotel/restaurant is situated on one of the quaintest and most peaceful streets I’ve ever come across. Like everything else in Lexington, there is a rich history to this building. It originally opened in the late 1800s by an Irish immigrant who provided a stable and carriage service. The building became an Inn and restaurant in 1997. Just walking into the dining space, you get a sense of how historic it is. And on a…

Crabs by the Bay at R & G Lounge

While in San Francisco, I met up with a long lost friend from high school and her boyfriend. She let me pick the place for dinner, and I had to go to R & G Lounge in Chinatown. This place is well known for their scrumptious dungeness crabs; I couldn’t leave the Bay without paying a visit. I arrived a little early and my friend told me I needed to order their lychee martini. It was a great suggestion, the martini was amazing with the lychee liquor and 2 giant…

Savannah Food Tour, Part Deux

Here is the synopsis of the rest my long eating adventure in Savannah. I definitely recommend this place as a must visit. The food is amazing and the culture and town are beyond beautiful. I enjoyed every bit of my mini-vacation. The Crab Shack – driving to Tybee Island, all you see are advertisements for the Crab Shack. But we didn’t go based on that. Tuan had dined there before when he was in town for a bachelor party, and Rachel Ray had featured this place in her $40 a…

Getting Fat and Happy in Savannah, GA

We have been planning this eating adventure for a while and I was super excited to finally be able to go during Easter weekend. I did a ton of research and had put together a great list of culinary delights that would give me a full spectrum of the food that the south is known for. There were a few places that really stood out to me, so I will actually dedicate a separate post to those, but here’s a synopsis of my long weekend in Savannah. Huey’s on the…
